about

Lyrics by Emily Anne Henry.

lyrics

God is holding me somewhere between the wrist and the elbow. Or maybe somewhere between the tip of my string and the knot that keeps the helium inside of me. Either way, it’s a piece of me he’s touching, not the place I’m tied to. When I tore and began to float away from the vendor’s cart no connection was lost. I know for sure that’s not where he was now that I’m up here in the sky. I hear all the voices singing in sounds and not words. There are tambourines and an overpowering bass and a sound something like cars speeding past. The air feels like rain, but looks golden and dusty like some sort of holy dusk. There are a few trumpets too and something similar to how I remember the steel drums in the park. Nothing is in a rush, but instead travels at the exact pace intended. My pace isn’t the same as the trumpet or the tambourine or the birds or the clouds, but mine is still right I’m sure. There is one other balloon here, but he is red not yellow. I also have learned that while there is one wind, there are millions of breezes. While the rain is one there are many drops and they are much more relatable than the rain though less respectable.
